Save Those Seeds!

As we celebrate late summer, enjoy those flowers in your yard, gardens, and community! BUT don’t forget to save some of the blossoms!

Pick some of your favorite flowers and enjoy them! Then, once they’ve gone by, save the blooms because they have reusable seeds in them. Sunflowers, marigolds, and zinnias are some of the easiest flower blossoms to dry, and to utilize in your planting(s) the following year.

Saving seeds is good for many reasons. These flowering plants encourage pollinators in your yard. You’ll save money since you won’t have to buy seeds. You know these kinds of flowers have already thrived and adapted to your yard and to your region’s micro-climate. And, you get to select your own color schemes for your garden.

You can also take your seed-saving even further. You can participate in a seed swap with neighbors and friends. You can also support your local library which might have a seed library.

Happy September and Happy Harvesting!

Look at our “Autumn is Here” blog from October 2024 where we focus on a great book about seeds, and several other books that celebrate autum!
