Autumn is here!

Autumn started officially in the Northern Hemisphere on Sunday, September 22nd, 2024. Bring on the pumpkins, apples, spooky stories, fire pits, colorful leaves, and harvest dinners. Here are some books we like for the change of seasons.

We like to look at all aspects of the tree – seeds, bark, leaves, and Seeing Trees’ amazing photographs and excellent descriptions give us just that! Look to author, Nancy Ross Hugo’s and photographer, Robert Llewellyn’s webpages for other excellent nature-focused books.

We love The Little Yellow Leaf by Carin Berger. What better way to sit with the youngsters in your life and read about autumn, and to re-visit the lesson(s) about what it means to let things go!

We enjoy all the picture books about Fletcher. Fletcher and the Falling Leaves is an autumn favorite! Explore all the feelings of seasons changing with this sweet tale. Tiphanie Beeke’s illustrations will welcome you right in to the words of Julia Rawlinson’s story.

We always like to encourage grabbing a tree guide book when heading out into the forest to enjoy the fall foliage. We like the Arbor Day Foundation’s guide book entitled What Tree is That (ISBN: 9780963465757). You can use their on-line tree identification guide, too. Another book we recommend is Bark by Michael Wojtech. Enjoy being outside!
